Is the SSB premium worth it?

It can be—when the machine needs a separate fine paper-side structure and wear-resistant machine-side structure, and when the trial shows a measurable improvement in the actual constraint. It is not an automatic upgrade for every position.

Compare:

• paper grade, basis weight, furnish and target speed;
• drainage, retention, formation and marking;
• wear pattern, seam condition and dimensional stability;
• days and tons produced under equivalent conditions;
• purchase price, downtime, broke and cost per ton.

Use a controlled position trial before extending the design to other machines or positions. A universal life, retention or ROI percentage is not technically defensible without a documented baseline.
