Customer Background
A cluster of three 6,600 mm packaging-paper machines operated by leading Chinese packaging-paper groups. These large multi-ply Fourdrinier formers use 100% recovered fiber to produce heavy kraft linerboard in the 70–250 g/m² range.
The Challenge
A 6.6 m width combined with highly abrasive 100% recovered fiber imposed extreme mechanical demands. Fabrics were being changed every 35–40 days. The multi-ply configuration also required precise drainage control to prevent interply defects while maintaining dimensional stability under continuous high tension.
The Solution
PAPTEX implemented a 3CSSB forming fabric with a BGW22608 heavy-duty flat-yarn dryer fabric. Alternating PET/PA6 wear-resistant cross yarns provided three to four times the abrasion resistance, with FSI calibrated for each ply. The dryer fabric used a PTFE coating for stock with ash content above 12%.

Implementation Timeline
Multi-site audit
Weeks 1–3Audit three machines, analyze stock and review wear records.
Custom design
Weeks 4–6Configure each machine and complete accelerated wear testing.
Phased deployment
Weeks 7–11Install by priority and track operating data.
Consolidated report
Week 12Confirm performance across all machines and compare TCO.
Results — Verified KPIs
Fabric life increased from 38 to 58 days, a 53% improvement. Interply defects fell by 62%, machine availability increased by 5.1%, and total cost of ownership decreased by 28%.
| KPI Metric | Before | After | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tco | −28% | — | |
| Fabric Life | +53% | — | |
| Availability | +5.1% | — | |
| Interply Defects | −62% | — |
Return on Investment
Fabric life increased by 53%, total cost of ownership decreased by 28%, and the investment was recovered in the first operating cycle.
“Industrial proof for heavy packaging-paper production: a 6.6 m multi-ply Fourdrinier configuration running abrasive recovered fiber with stable dimensions, controlled interply drainage and improved fabric wear life.”
