Complete Technical Parameters

Full specification sheet for engineering evaluation

MaterialBatt fiber: 100% Polyamide (PA6/PA66). Base fabric: 100% Polyester (PET) or PET/PA6 hybrid. Batt-to-base ratio: 45:55 to 65:35 (application-dependent).
ConstructionNeedle-punched batt-on-base. Woven base fabric (single-layer / double-layer / laminated) with batt fiber needled from one or both sides. Batt weight and needling density adjusted per application.
Weight1,000 – 2,200 g/m² (application-dependent; higher weight = greater void volume = more water removal per nip)
Weight Tolerance± 3% across full width
Caliper2.0 – 5.5 mm (measured at 2 kPa, ISO 9073-2)
Caliper Tolerance± 0.08 mm across full width
Density0.30 – 0.50 g/cm³ (lower density = higher void volume = better water handling)
Air Permeability15 – 120 CFM (at 125 Pa, ISO 9237). Press felts have significantly lower air permeability than dryer fabrics — water removal is by mechanical pressing, not air flow.

Why This Model

Differentiation & Selection Guide

How this model compares to other PAPTEX options and competitor alternatives

vs Other PAPTEX Models

  • Forming Fabric — Multi-Layer Series

Press Felt: operates in the press section — after sheet formation is complete. Needle-punched batt-on-base composite structure for water absorption and mechanical pressing. Press felts are nonwoven composite structures. Forming Fabric: operates in the wet end (forming section). Mesh-type woven construction for drainage and fiber retention on the pulp slurry. These fabrics serve entirely different machine sections and mechanisms — press felts remove water by mechanical pressure; forming fabrics drain water by gravity and vacuum. PAPTEX supplies both — same quality system, same direct-engineer contact.

  • Polyester Dryer Fabric — Flat Yarn Series

Press Felt: operates in the press section (wet, high nip pressure, mechanical water removal). Batt-on-base composite structure absorbs water from the sheet and releases it at the Uhle box. Polyester Dryer Fabric: operates in the dryer section (hot, no nip pressure, thermal water removal). Flat yarn woven structure for sheet transport and heat transfer. Different sections, different physics — press felts handle water in liquid phase; dryer fabrics handle water in vapor phase.

  • Spiral Dryer Fabric — Spiral Coil Series

Press Felt: press section, batt-on-base composite, 2.0–5.5 mm caliper, 15–120 CFM. Spiral Dryer Fabric: dryer section, spiral coil, 2.0–4.5 mm caliper, 600–900 CFM. The 15–120 CFM range of press felts reflects their fundamentally different function — low air permeability keeps water in the felt for Uhle box removal, rather than evaporating it.

vs Competitor Alternatives

  • Albany International

Albany: publicly traded (NYSE: AIN), the largest PMC supplier, extensive press felt R&D. PAPTEX: factory-direct supply chain. Same PA6/PA66 batt fiber and PET base fabric from certified suppliers. Void volume, water permeability, and density measured and reported per order — included in the quotation. Caliper tolerance ± 0.08 mm across full width — verified at 16 measurement points. Direct engineer communication from inquiry to delivery. 15–25 day delivery vs 30–45 day industry average.

  • Voith (OEM felt)

Voith: OEM-specified press felt, integrated with Voith press section design (NipcoFlex, DuoCentri). PAPTEX: aftermarket alternative. Same batt fiber, same base fabric construction, same ISO test standards. 30–50% lower cost vs OEM felt. Independent specification — not locked to machine OEM. Press section analysis included with first order: our engineer evaluates your press configuration, nip pressures, Uhle box placement, and felt conditioning system. Mills that switched from Voith OEM report equivalent sheet dryness exiting the press within the first trial felt.

  • AstenJohnson

AstenJohnson: vertically integrated, proprietary batt fiber extrusion. PAPTEX: sources virgin PA6/PA66 batt fiber from certified suppliers to exact fineness specification (3.3–67 dtex). Full range of single/double/laminated base constructions. Void volume and water permeability testing on every production felt. 15–25 day delivery vs 30–45 day industry average. 6-language technical support. Nip simulation test included in every pre-shipment QC report.

  • Heimbach

Heimbach: German engineering, strong European press felt market. PAPTEX: equivalent ISO 9001 quality system. Full range of batt-on-base and laminated press felt constructions. Press-specific quality checks: void volume measurement, water permeability test (ISO 11058), nip pressure simulation, surface topography inspection. Same performance grade, competitive pricing, detailed pre-shipment test report with every order.
